Ibrahim

I was born in Kenya, and moved to Sioux Falls SD, when I was 5 years old. I've lived here most of my life! I am the oldest of 11 kids. I grew up in a big family with high expectations. My siblings look up to me and that motivates me to be the best version of myself, every single day. Being a big sister and having a big family full of children younger than me is what sparked my interest in teaching. I've also attended schools in the Sioux Falls school district and have met some of the most amazing teachers. These teachers believed in me and encouraged me to pursue my dreams.

I recently graduated from the University of Sioux Falls, Go COO! I majored in Elementary Education and pursued a minor in ELL. The journey of achieving this degree led me to a lot of self-discoveries. I enjoyed working with different grade levels and learning more about what teaching truly is about. On my campus, I had some of the most amazing professors who advised, supported, and celebrated with me. I gained the skills of what it means to be an active teacher. To actively support, understand, and guide my students.

I am currently teaching 4th grade at Terry Redlin Elementary. I am amazed at how much growth I've continued to make! My students are teaching me a lot about myself, and the world, as I continue to learn and grow with them. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with such amazing staff and students. I am excited to see where this new role continues to take me!

When I am outside of school, I enjoy being around my family and friends. I love being around laughter and comfort. I enjoy going on walks and connecting with nature (unless it is hot, or very cold /: ). In my free time, I enjoy binge-watching my favorite television shows. On the days when I'm feeling a little more productive, you are very likely to find me at a random Starbucks location trying to stay focused. Caffeine always helps! Something that I am currently working on is reconnecting with my love for reading!

A big goal I have for myself this school year is to get to know more about the cultures and languages represented in Terry Redlin. We all have a culture that contributes to our society, it's also been amazing to share parts of my culture with my students and the friends I've made! There's beauty in diversity and how it contributes to our school environment. Terry Redlin represents a lot of cultures and embraces differences. I am grateful to be a part of such a safe, and supportive environment!

Thank you for welcoming me with open arms!
